WHAT IS GENUS?
The term comes from the latin genus, meaning descent, family, gender, type. In the taxonomy rank, genus is between species and family. The first time that this term was use, was by the french botanist Joseph Pitton de Tournefort. He is consired "the founder of the modern concept of genera". The composition of a genus is decided by a taxonomist. They are not codified but different taxonomist often produce different classification for genera.
