What is family?
The term family comes from the latin word familia. In the taxonomy rank is between order and genus. A family may be also named after one of its common members. This term was first introduced by a French botanist called Pierre Magnol in his Prodromus historiae generalis plantarum, in quo familiae plantarum per tabulas disponuntur in 1689, later popularized by Carolus Linnaeus. The family of plants, fungi, and algae end with the suffix "-aceae" and for the families of animals end with "-idae".
